Biomedical Science is the study of disease processes in the human body and the associated diagnostic investigations that are used in hospital and public health laboratories to inform and manage therapeutic interventions. The course aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable about current diagnostic practice and able to seek careers in these areas and are also able to appreciate and contribute to novel research developments to inform improvements in patient investigation and outcome. The course also prepares students for a wide variety of other careers in both laboratory-based biosciences (eg cancer research, biotechnology and commercial laboratories), and non-laboratory roles. Graduates of the current course at Coventry University often pursue to MSc and PhD study or apply for graduate entry medical or dental school or physician’s associate courses. IIHS students who complete the top up course would be eligible to apply for entry to MSc Biomedical Science at Coventry University, which allows students to specialise in a chosen biomedical laboratory discipline.
